Rotary Club International Service - Matching Grant for Don Bosco
Foundation, Lebanon
In the City of Zgharta, Lebanon, The Don Bosco Foundation takes care
of delinquent young people, keeping them away of the dangers of the
streets.
They work vigorously in guiding them and in
giving them the basic education to face the future. A committee of Rotarians
visited the location several times and then decided to do something
to help.
First, we provided
equipment such as computers, printers and other office
supplies to advance and improve their administrative performance.
In addition, our club assisted 45 adolescents in receiving a better
orientation to business to improve their leadership
skills.
Rotarians worked enthusiastically to ensure that the materials
purchased for the center are the best quality and the best price.
It was a very enriching experience to see their response and knowing
that our efforts will help make a difference in those teenagers' lives.
We are still in contact with them to ensure
that they are doing well.
A ceremony to honor Rotarians for their efforts was held
where many Rotarians were present. The Governor of our District also
made a speech thanking everyone for their help.
Ferris Wehbe, our fellow Rotarian from the Rotary Club of Hollywood,
visited the project site before and after the opening. He met with
the board of Directors to see how the project was run and about the
role of this important center.
This has been a magnificent opportunity
to let the Lebanese people know what Rotary is doing for the community.
