The Open World Program is designed to strengthen international relations
by hosting and coordinating a local program for Russian delegates.
This program brings 1,700 current and future political and
civic leaders from Russia and other eligible countries to the United
States in 2005. Despite generous support from our congressional sponsors,
it would be impossible for us to reach so many leaders without the
involvement of dedicated host coordinators.
Home hosting is a unique and key component of the Open World Program.
Hosting has been central to the program’s success in breaking
down the barriers of mistrust and misunderstanding that sometimes exist
between Americans and Russians.
In 2005, five female delegates visited from June
the 25th until July the 3rd. The Host families were responsible for
providing breakfast every morning,
driving the delegates to meeting locations,
having family dinners with delegates and attending a farewell
party for the visitors.
This has been an enriching experience for families
as well as the delegates and will contribute to world peace.
